i dont get it, why is it so horrible that you liked anime in the past, i guess i would want to hit my self if my 12 year old self said things like kawaii desu (luckily i never did that shit) but why is anime in general something so terrifingly bad that you have to shove it away in your closet and why is learning japanese a taboo to you? just because you were introduced to it through anime doesnt mean thats your inner 'otaku' coming out (i would wrtie more but ask limits are annoying)
I wouldn’t really say it’s horrible. Part of this blog is to point out the ridiculousness of how tiny insignificant things can send us on a shame-trip, the paranoia of thinking everyone will find out your “dark secret” and make fun of you. Anime is wonderful (mostly) and that is not what brings on the shame. No, I don’t think it’s about anime at all. EVERYONE looks back on their younger self and cringes. But because of anime and this “otaku” subculture, we all seem to cringe for about the same reasons. And so we come together here… to wallow in shame about how embarrassing and ignorant we all once were… not because we were otaku… but because we were young and silly. And we now feel past that… except for sometimes.
Your blog is really great! I can't really relate why people have to quit EVERYTHING related to anime and manga though? You can just tone it down instead of throwing away everything you liked. That's just a waste, since you enjoyed and liked it at one point and spent a lot of money on the things you bought. Instead you could just put it in boxes and store it somewhere...
I agree that it is not entirely necessary to abstain from all anime-related things in order to “recover” from being an otaku. (Partly because if you do that, you will likely relapse so hard, you’ll be a hikikomori.) However, I feel that we should respect the decisions of others- perhaps someone feels that abandoning all anime is the right thing for them. We do not know their life circumstances. I will not censor the finches of people with controversial or differing opinions. But I might censor posts that directly address other posts, because I want this to be an open place of grief and acceptance. Posts that seem to argue with one another do not contribute to that atmosphere.
Um, I submitted 3 things here days ago...was wondering, how long do posts generally take to get posted? I noticed it was 5 days or so between your newest post and the last one. I understand if you're busy, I'm just curious if you have any idea how long it generally takes. Thank you!
Generally, submissions are posted as soon as I notice them, haha… I set it up to post once a day as long as we have submissions to meet that, but sometimes we run out. Anyway, I just set up a bunch to post over the next few days so you should be seeing yours soon. Thanks for contributing!
